A Reinbeck man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation — his second federal drug conviction.

Austin Hansen, 39, coordinated with a source in California, whom he met during a previous stint in federal prison, to import large quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana into Iowa. From December 2023 to May 2024, the California source shipped 37 packages containing drugs to post offices in Reinbeck, Dike, and Waterloo. In return, Hansen sent $260,000 in payments.

Authorities intercepted one shipment containing over 5,000 grams of methamphetamine. A May 2024 search of Hansen’s home uncovered more than 600 grams of meth, a firearm, over $12,000 in cash, and documentation of money transfers.

Hansen had previously been sentenced to federal prison in 2011 for drug trafficking. He pleaded guilty in December 2024 to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance after a prior conviction for a serious drug felony.

He was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
