Jack Dale Pumphrey, 85, of Batavia died at 12:39 a.m. June 2, 2025 at Addington Place of Fairfield.
He was born May 11, 1940 in Ottumwa to Rollo and Mary Hardin Pumphrey. Jack’s mother Mary passed away during his birth and he was then raised by his step mother, Mary Belle Fabritz Pumphrey. He married Betty Lou McCleary October 21, 1961 and she preceded him in death July 28, 2023.
Jack served in the U.S. Army. He then worked as a carpenter, farmer and retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works after 30 years.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and UAW Local #74. Jack was also a chairperson for AA meetings held twice a week at his home. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and traveling.
Surviving is his granddaughter, Ambrielle Coulter of Carson City, NV; siblings, Nancy Thomason of Amana and James Pumphrey of Moore Haven, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Mary Belle Fabritz Pumphrey; daughters, Tracey Coulter and Jackie Pumphrey Cassettari; brothers, Bob Pumphrey, Dick Pumphrey and Bill Pumphrey.
Visitation will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 5th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday June 6th at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Competine Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St Patrick Catholic Church, Hospice Compasses or Heartland Humane Society.
