A cat situation in Davenport got out of hand fast — and now a local animal shelter is stepping up in a big way. What began as just seven unspayed and unneutered cats quickly multiplied into 70, overwhelming the pet owner and prompting a call for help.
The Humane Society of Scott County answered that call, and it’s put serious pressure on their resources. So far, the shelter has taken in 40 of the cats and kittens, with the remaining 30 still at the home but expected to arrive soon.
Staff at the shelter are working hard to adapt. They’ve had to reorganize their space and shift responsibilities to care for the sudden influx of animals. It’s a tough task, especially since they started the summer with extra room — but that space has filled up fast.
The Humane Society is now asking for community support to help cover the costs of care. With dozens of new mouths to feed, vet checks to complete, and lots of cleaning and care ahead, every donation makes a difference.
