The USDA has launched a portal for farmers, ranchers, and USDA customers to report complaints if they believe they have been targeted by unfair or politically motivated legal actions.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins made the announcement Wednesday morning. “We will work with our counterparts across the Trump government to address any other government overreach in situations like this,” she says. “We must ensure that our farmers and our ranchers have not and will not be targeted for living the American way of life.”
Rollins says the prosecution of the Maude family, a multi-generational South Dakota farm and ranch family that was indicted on charges of “theft of federal property” over 25 acres of public lands, should never have happened. “There are a lot of rogue bureaucrats, and the administrative state is ruling way too much of America right now,” she says. “That is what President Trump has tasked us to fix. And that is what we will fix.”
The Trump administration announced this week that it was dropping all charges against the Maude family.
