The Sigourney City Council held its first meeting of May on Wednesday night.

After the consent agenda was approved, Executive Director Gary Iosbaker provided a report from Keokuk County Economic Development. Iosbaker says there is a lot of activity on the fundraising front for the proposed child care center in Keota, and more information will be coming out in the next few days. Additionally, KCED has kicked off an initiative looking for ways to expand housing options within the community.

Iosbaker informed the council that the KCED Car Show will take place on July 12th. The farmers’ market will start in June.

Next, Stuart Grossman of Kiwanis provided an update on the pavilion project. The funds have been secured to do the construction for the project starting in the summer. Grossman also says a general contractor has been hired, and he has hired subcontractors.

Construction is expected to begin on July 14th after the car show and be completed by August 22nd before the Fountain Festival. Grossman says there were some design changes to the pavilion and provided images of the new design to the council.

The council approved the installation of a flagpole at the soccer flag football complex. The flagpole was purchased by the American Legion.

Sigourney’s next City Council Meeting will be on May 21st.
