After an extraordinary 48 years of dedicated service to the City of Pella, At-Large City Councilmember Mark DeJong has announced this will be his final term in office. In the city’s monthly newsletter, DeJong reflected on his decades-long commitment to civic leadership, inspired in part by his father, who also served on the City Council.

During his tenure, DeJong worked with six different mayors and numerous councilmembers, helping guide the city through remarkable growth and development. When he was first elected, Pella had only three working departments—now, the city stands as a testament to decades of careful planning and leadership.

As DeJong steps away, his at-large seat will be up for election on November 4, along with two other council positions:

  • Ward 1 (currently held by Lynn Branderhorst)
  • Ward 3 (currently held by Spencer Carlstone)
