On April 10, members of the U.S. Marshals Southern District of Iowa Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the Northern District of Iowa, arrested a man in Cedar Rapids wanted on multiple charges involving the exploitation of a minor.
Hanier Ivan Ramirez-Garcia, 29, was taken into custody in the 900 block of 3rd Street SE. Ramirez-Garcia was wanted by the Iowa City Police Department on charges including grooming, enticement of a minor, and dissemination of obscene materials to a minor.
According to investigators, the charges stem from an October 27, 2024, incident in which Ramirez-Garcia allegedly attempted to arrange a meeting for sexual purposes with someone he believed to be a teenage girl. He is also accused of sending a sexually explicit image of himself.
Following his arrest, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials determined Ramirez-Garcia, a Nicaraguan national, was unlawfully present in the United States. An ICE detainer has been placed, and he will be transferred to federal custody upon his release from the Johnson County Jail.
“The Marshals Service is proud of the strong partnerships we’ve developed with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies,” said U.S. Marshal Ted Kamatchus of the Southern District of Iowa. “Together, we are committed to locating and apprehending fugitives who pose a threat to public safety—no matter where they come from or where they attempt to hide.”
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force continues its mission of enhancing public safety by locating and apprehending the most dangerous fugitives throughout Iowa and beyond.
