The family of Sharon J. Smith, 90, of Ottumwa would like to share of her passing on April 23, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.
She was born March 26, 1935 and adopted in February of 1936 by Glen and Audrey James Hawkins of Ottumwa. Sharon had a twin brother who didn’t survive past 1 year. Her mom passed away when Sharon was 11 and she later gained a step-mom, Ethel Day Hawkins. Sharon married Dale William Smith November 22, 1952 and after 64 years of marriage, he preceded her in death January 22, 2017.
Sharon was a school bus driver for 21 years in Ottumwa, Fairfield and Scottsbluff, NE, retiring in 1989. She then worked at Super 8 Motel with her husband from 1990 to 1999.
Sharon attended First Pentecostal Assembly of God. She enjoyed decorating, crafts, ceramics and crocheting.
Surviving are her 6 children, Marcia (Mike) Ernst, Joleen (Robert) Scott, Julie Callas, Becky Smith, Jill (Brent) Kilthau and Chris (Tricia) Smith; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 special friends, Dot Stevens, Eunice Osing and her roommate at Good Samaritan, Jackie Parr.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mom; and sons-in-law, Ron Callas and Jim Adam.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26th at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
