The Moravia Schools drama and vocal music departments joined forces last weekend to present the lively and educational musical Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr., delighting audiences of all ages with a colorful blend of song, dance, and nostalgia.
The production featured catchy tunes like “Three is a Magic Number,” “I’m Just a Bill,” and the ever-popular “Conjunction Junction”—songs originally made famous by the animated educational series Schoolhouse Rock, which aired during Saturday morning television from 1973 to 1985, with a revival in the early 1990s.
While many adults in the audience fondly remembered the original cartoon from their own childhoods—or from watching with their children—not one of the young performers on stage had been born when the show last aired in 1996. Still, the student cast brought the music and messages of Schoolhouse Rock to life with enthusiasm, humor, and charm.
The musical, adapted from the beloved series, serves as a creative way to introduce topics such as grammar, science, math, and civics through engaging performances. Students sang and danced their way through lessons disguised as entertainment, showcasing both their talent and the show’s enduring educational value.
The performance was a testament to the dedication of the school’s performing arts departments and the joy of rediscovering a classic in a new format.
