Construction is now underway on the Market Street Gateway project, a new landmark that will welcome visitors into Ottumwa’s downtown district. The design features brick pillars and a bold overhead sign that will mark the entrance with style and significance.
What makes this project especially meaningful is its connection to Ottumwa’s history. The overhead sign will be built using salvaged roof trusses from the former Ottumwa Coliseum, preserving a piece of the city’s legacy and giving it new life as part of this modern addition.
Funded by the Ottumwa Legacy Foundation, the project is scheduled for completion by the end of August 2025. As work continues, the community is encouraged to watch for updates, including any temporary street closures related to installation.
This gateway will serve as both a tribute to Ottumwa’s past and a symbol of its bright future.
