A Bloomfield man is behind bars following a tense series of events early Tuesday morning that began with a reported armed burglary and ended with his arrest just hours later.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:25 a.m. on April 15 to a residence in the 100 block of East Madison Avenue. A homeowner reported that a man had forced his way inside and threatened them with a knife before fleeing the scene.

By the time officers and deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrived, the suspect had already left the area. Law enforcement conducted an immediate search of the neighborhood but were initially unable to locate him.

The situation took a turn later that morning when a 911 call came in reporting an unconscious man found in an alley. Responding officers identified the individual as the same man involved in the earlier break-in.

Police arrested 49-year-old Larry Wayne Douglas Phillips of Bloomfield. He has been charged with First-Degree Burglary, a Class B felony, and was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. He remains in custody awaiting his initial court appearance.

Authorities have not released further details regarding Phillips’ condition at the time of his discovery, or any possible motive for the alleged burglary.

The Fairfield Police Department reminds the public that a criminal charge is merely an accusation and that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
