April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the widespread issue of child abuse and advocating for the protection of children. Each year, approximately 550,000 children in the United States endure some form of abuse. Globally, an estimated one billion children experience sexual violence, with statistics indicating that one in four girls and one in 13 boys will face sexual abuse in their lifetime.
For many, these numbers are just statistics, but for survivors, they represent real-life experiences. One survivor, who endured abuse 15 years ago, is speaking out to shed light on the issue and encourage others to take part in awareness efforts.
Friday, April 4, marks Wear Blue Day, a national initiative to show solidarity with survivors and advocate for child abuse prevention. Supporters are encouraged to wear blue as a symbol of their commitment to ending child abuse and supporting those affected.
By acknowledging the realities of child abuse and taking action, communities can help create a safer future for children everywhere.
