Steven Lee Alex, 74 of Ottumwa died at 3:55 a.m. March 23, 2025 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
He was born July 14, 1950 in Perry, IA to William and Phyllis Yard Alex. Steve married Kathleen Ann Grow June 28, 1974.
Growing up in Perry, Steve graduated from Perry High School in 1969, moving to Ottumwa in 1980. He worked over 40 years for the Milwaukee, Sioux Line, and Canadian Pacific Railroads, retiring in 2010.
Steve enjoyed collecting and working on various classic cars including his 1968 Chevelle. He loved to work on engines and small motors including vehicles, snow blowers and weed eaters. Helping others was of utmost importance to Steve. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Surviving is his wife, Kathy; their children, Jeffrey Steven (Jenna) Alex of Cedar Rapids and Jason Scott (Jessie) Alex of Iowa City; grandchildren, Lauryn, Tyler, Scarlett, Colton and Penelope; a brother, David (Marty) Alex of Medford, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His body has been cremated and services are not planned at this time.
