A strong low pressure system heads into Iowa this afternoon, coming from the southwest. This system is expected to produce showers and thunderstorms across most of Iowa today, including a line of severe thunderstorms moving from the SW to NE across the state during the afternoon and early evening hours between 4pm and 10pm.

Damaging winds will be the main threat today and tonight, however large hail and a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Some storms in this system may even produce wind gusts over 70 mph. Central and southern Iowa have the highest risk, where a Moderate (4/5) Risk of severe weather is in place.
