The Fairfield Community School District is projecting its second straight year of certified enrollment growth, continuing a turnaround after several years of declining student counts, according to a press release from the district.

Preliminary 2026 figures show an estimated increase of about 10 students in certified enrollment, bringing the district’s projected total to 1,494.10. Final figures are expected to be certified in mid-November.

Certified enrollment is the official student count used to determine state aid funding and serves as a key factor in district planning and budgeting.

The projected growth follows a period of steady decline. The district’s certified enrollment peaked at 1,607.40 in 2021 before falling each of the next three years — dropping 39.14 students to 1,568.26 in 2022, another 42.45 to 1,525.81 in 2023, and another 46.15 to 1,479.66 in 2024. The district saw its first increase in 2025, gaining 4.35 students to reach 1,484.01, and the 2026 projection of 10.09 additional students would mark the largest single-year gain in that stretch.

“Seeing our certified enrollment continue to grow is an encouraging sign for our district and community,” Superintendent Zach Wigle said. “We are grateful for the trust our families place in us and remain committed to providing an environment where every student has the opportunity to belong, learn, and grow.”
