Farm groups continue to call on lawmakers to finish the farm bill this year.
Darin Johnson, president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association, says a new farm bill is long overdue and producers need certainty. “It feels like a broken record the last couple years,” he said. “We’re going to work very hard, especially with the support we’re going to have in Minnesota with Congresswoman Craig and Senator Klobuchar. We’re hoping to get some bipartisan support and get this farm bill to the finish line.”
He tells Brownfield a boost in conservation funding is one of their biggest priorities. “Not all conservation practices align farm-to-farm. They are all different, especially when you talk about 45Z and tax credits that come along with that. We want to make sure conservation practices fit everybody across the U.S.”
Johnson says the next farm bill also needs to protect crop insurance for producers.
