The Fairfield Community School District announced its new elementary principal late last week.
Heather Buckley, current Principal of Cardinal Elementary School, will be the Principal of Washington Elementary for the 2025-26 school year, according to a press release.
Buckley has been the leader of Cardinal’s elementary school since 2014. In 2022, she was named Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year.
Buckley was previously the shared Curriculum Director for the Cardinal and Pekin school districts. She was also a fourth grade teacher at Fairfield Schools.
Buckley’s education includes a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa, a master’s in education curriculum and instruction from the University of St. Mary in Overland Park, Kan., and her PK-12 principal/PK-12 special education supervisor and evaluator license from the University of Iowa.
