The Fairfield City Council meeting opened with Mayor Connie Boyer saying Fairfield is one of the last cities not to have any building codes and she would like to start with residential areas because Boyer feels building codes are part of a thriving community.

Lindsey Bauer, Executive Director of the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center, told the council the Southeast Iowa Farm Show is coming up on March 1 and part of Main Street in front of the FACC will have to be closed for various farm equipment. The council unanimously approved closing the street for that day.

Terry Baker, Executive Director of the Fairfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, spoke next. Baker says she recently received certification from the International Inbound Travel Association and she will work with international travel groups and guides to try to bring them to Fairfield.

The council unanimously approved a bridge inspection agreement. Three such structures are due for inspection in 2025.

The council also unanimously approved consideration of construction staking, construction material testing, and special structural inspection support services for the new fire station.
