Below deadly wind chills have most of southeast Iowa hunkered down indoors.
For those needing a place to go,WYD in Ottumwa is one of the only known warming centers in the area.
WYD is usually a shelter for woman and children only.
But they are opening their doors to all while the severe weather persists.
Homelessness in southeast Iowa may not be a visible as it is in the cities,but that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked.
If the windchill factor gets below -24 (polar vortex) the warming shelter will be open from 5pm until 9am the next morning.
Woman,men and children allowed.They do have some restrictions listed below.
They also reserve the right to turn those away that present a danger to themselves or others.
The saftey of their residents and the public is their main concern.
