An Ottumwa man faces numerous charges after authorities say he strangled a female victim with two children present.
24-year-old Quinton Guffey was charged with domestic abuse assault, willful injury, possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense, first-degree harassment, two counts of child endangerment, and obstruction of emergency communications.
On January 9 around 10:00 PM, court records say Guffey threatened to kill the victim at a residence the two share. Guffey also allegedly took the victim’s phone when she attempted to call for help.
Guffey struck the victim multiple times and put his hands around her throat, impeding her airflow, according to court documents. Authorities say two children witnessed the alleged attack. Officers noted the victim had redness around her throat and bruises, swelling, and other redness around her body.
Guffey was arrested in the early morning hours of January 10. When he was taken into custody, officers allegedly found a THC marijuana vape on his person.
Guffey is currently in the Wapello County Jail. He was later freed after posting a $10,000 bond. A judge has ordered Guffey not to have contact with the victim or the two children.
