An eastern Iowa farmer says he’s considering some strategic plans that could help him cut back on inputs during the 2025 growing season.
Lance Lillibridge says his insecticide program will be a major focus. “We might go to more of a liquid type of system and go in-furrow with a more precise way of applying that insecticide where we can potentially cut the amount by about 30%.”
He tells Brownfield precision ag technology should help him better manage corn rootworm. “We’re using some soil samples that detect DNA of the rootworm. Where we don’t have rootworm DNA in the soil we won’t apply, and where we do have rootworm DNA in the soil we will apply.”
Lillibridge raises a corn-on-corn rotation in Benton County.
