After the consent agenda was approved, the council approved the street closure of Burlington Avenue for the Dodge Power Wagon Reunion Parade which will take place on June 7th. The parade will start at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds and conclude at the Fairfield Town Square.
Next, Deb Williamson of the Beautification Commission shared the group’s accomplishments in 2024 and their goals for the upcoming year, which include planting 3,000 tulips, starting a tool-borrowing program at the public library, and having a home renovation contest.
The council approved the purchase of new equipment for Heritage Park, authorized a grant application of the EPA Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grant, approved the 2025 IRS mileage rate of 70 cents per mile, and approved the extension of a lease agreement for agricultural crop adjacent to the Fairfield Municipal Airport.
The city council approved $700 from Local Option Sales Tax funding to be used for the Trees Forever Grant.
Mayor Connie Boyer shared the top 10 accomplishments of Fairfield in 2024 such as hosting a mid-day RAGBRAI event, replacing the Crow Creek Bridge, and the new fire station receiving over half a million dollars in grants and awards bids. The top accomplishment was Fairfield’s Matt Stutzman winning the gold medal in the archery event at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
