David Lee “Tank” “Super Dave” Wardlow, 78, of Ottumwa, died at 6:30 a.m. November 8, 2024 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.

He was born November 26, 1945 in Ottumwa. He married Nancy Johnson December 3, 1965 and they later divorced. He married Judy Boyd December 2, 1995.

A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, David had worked 8 years for the Ottumwa Police Department, Pat Sheedy Distributing for 27 years and upon retiring, he was a delivery driver for Hy-Vee, North.

David showed his passion for baseball by playing and coaching for the American Legion Baseball League. As well as playing semi-pro baseball. Baseball was a big part of his life and he loved to pass on any of his knowledge. He also loved coaching his kids. One of his biggest baseball accomplishments was receiving the MVP in the Milwaukee Braves Silver Slugger game.

David was a very kind and caring man. He had a big impact on his sons friends and anyone that knew him. Some may say he was stubborn, but he had a lot of love in his heart that he made sure to pass around. He also made sure to always let you know that he was proud of you.

Surviving is his wife, Judy; two sons, Chad (Melisa) Wardlow of Norwalk and Kyle Boyd of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Cole Troy and Lainey Marie; three siblings, Jim (Rachel) Wardlow of Creston, Janet Ransom of Ottumwa, Al (Pam) Wardlow of Ankeny.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Irma Moffit; a son, Troy Wardlow; a sister, Irma Jean Muldoon; a God son, Mike Van Velsor.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 15th, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to O. B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion or the family.
