Brad Hudson was going to be addressing the council, giving the quarterly Sheriff’s report, but was unavailable to attend.

Kris Rankin spoke to the council on behalf of the SAFE Coalition. They are working with the pharmacy to make sure any one with narcotic prescriptions are getting locking pill bottles. They are also looking at purchasing a substance scanner to give to law enforcement that helps identify drugs as well as keep officers safe from fentanyl. They also spoke about marijuana zoning to try to help keep it out of children’s hands.

A domestic violence volunteer representative spoke to the council. October is awareness month. During the month they go around to collect food and it generally stocks them up for most of the year. 376 work hours are spent in Van Buren county each year towards domestic violence victims.

Some other items the on the agenda included consideration of a street closure for trunk or treat, the Lions 50th anniversary discussion, a review of the alcohol compliance training ordinance, a trash/junk ordinance issue, noise complaint, and water and sewer debt fees.
