Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) in partnership with the JCHC Foundation will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Little Food Pantry located on the JCHC campus. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 29th, at 11:00 AM, in the parking lot of the Dialysis Center.
This project was made possible by a generous donation from the Heitsman family, in memory of Dr. Jay Heitsman, a beloved pediatrician at JCHC who was known for his gentle smile, compassionate care, and dedication to children.
The Little Food Pantry is part of the growing Little Free Pantry movement, a grassroots, crowd-sourced solution to addressing immediate food needs in local communities. These free pantries provide an anonymous, accessible way for individuals to both give and receive food, helping neighbors support one another in times of need.
The pantry was designed and built by Denis Walker, a JCHC staff member and has already been filled with donations collected during the JCHC Community Team’s Annual Food Drive. This pantry has been added to the Jefferson County Little Free Pantries Map and joins 15 other Little Free Pantries located throughout Fairfield, Libertyville, and Lockridge, furthering the effort to combat food insecurity in our
area.
“We are incredibly honored to continue Dr. Heitsman’s legacy of caring for the community through the addition of this Little Food Pantry,” said Bryan Hunger, CEO of JCHC. “This pantry will be a vital resource for individuals and families facing food insecurity, and it embodies the spirit of service that Dr. Heitsman was known for.”
