The city of Centerville held its city council meeting Monday night.
After the agenda was approved, public comments were opened and Chris Hoffman, Chairman of the Appanoose County Democrats, spoke. Hoffman says there have been instances of vandalism or theft of Harris/Walz campaign signs. Hoffman asked for the city council, Mayor Mike O’Connor, and police to condemn these actions.
Mayor O’Connor immediately spoke up once Hoffman was finished. “There’s no place for that,” he remarked.
The council approved bills and the financial report for September.
During the City Administrator’s report, Jason Fraser said federal guidelines for the acceptable amount of lead have changed from 0.015 milligrams per liter to 0.01 milligrams per liter. Fraser said there are two or three houses that surpass the new threshold. While the city has not been given a current timeline on when to fix that issue, Fraser mentioned previous guidelines gave the city 10 years to deal with it.
The council’s final action was approving an agreement with the Centerville Community School District for a school resource officer for the remainder of the 2025 fiscal year.
Centerville’s next city council meeting will be on November 4.
