Alfred Booy, 81, of Oskaloosa, passed away at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House on October 24, 2024.
Alfred Ray Booy, son of William and Emily (Uitermarkt) Booy, was born November 18, 1942, in Runnells, Iowa. Alfred’s family moved to Oskaloosa when he was a young child, and he attended Oskaloosa school, graduating in 1961. After high school, he worked a few jobs before being hired in 1964 by Rollscreen in Pella. He worked as a manager in the lumber plant of the company and remained there until 1998. At that time, he began working with his son, Brian, in his construction company, where he continued to work until two months ago. Alfred took great pride in being part of rebuilding the community. He impacted his community positively by tearing down old, dilapidated buildings and houses and building new homes for people to live in. His gift of creating something beautiful for his community will live on for many future generations.
In Alfred’s early retirement years, he was passionate about attending his son Kevin’s races. Alfred and his other son, Brian, worked on the maintenance of his racecars, and it was a time when many memories were made and unforgettable stories were created. Alfred enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He went on many hunting and fishing trips with his family and friends throughout his life. Alfred never missed a year of deer hunting in 50 years with the same group of men, their sons, and later their grandsons. Alfred’s family was his first love and enjoyment. One of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and was their biggest and loudest supporter.
Alfred was a member of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene. His adventurous spirit and leadership qualities took him on thirteen Working Witness Trips through the First Church of the Nazarene. These trips took him worldwide; the mission of these trips was to build churches and spread the Word of God.
His family includes his wife, Carol; his children: Brian (Glenda) Booy of Oskaloosa; Melanie Mason of Oskaloosa; Kevin (Crystal) Booy of Cedar; six grandchildren: Jacob and Kate Mason, and Braden, Brody, Brant, and Briley Booy; and one great-grandson Phoenix Mason. His siblings also survive him: Harold (Evelyn) Booy of Mountain Home, AR; Raymond Booy of Mauldin Bridge, NY; brother-in-law Claude Nichols of Auburn, NE; a sister-in-law Carolyn Booy of Sun Valley, AZ. A special thank you to our dear friends, with whom we have shared over 60 years of friendship, Pastor Alvern and Jane Boestma.
In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Arvin (Leola) Booy; three sisters: Marlene Weiner, Shirley Nichols, and Janice Rentzler; a brother-in-law, Darrell Weiner; and a sister-in-law, Janet Booy.
Funeral services for Alfred will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory, with Reverend Darren Melton of First Church of Nazarene officiating. Following the service, Alfred’s body will be cremated, and the burial of ashes will occur during a private family service at Forest Cemetery.
