Smith, Downtown Maintenance Specialist for 25 years, Announces Retirement

Main Street Ottumwa announced the retirement of a longtime employee, who it says was instrumental in the revitalization of downtown Ottumwa.

Sue Smith, a Downtown Maintenance Specialist since 1999, will resign after 25 years of service. Smith played a significant role with the flowers in Downtown Ottumwa which have beautified the community and made downtown a welcoming environment for residents and visitors, according to the city.

“It has been an absolute honor to work with Sue over the years,” said Fred Zesiger, Executive Director of Main Street Ottumwa. “Her impact on Downtown Ottumwa will be felt for years to come. We are grateful for her service and wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.”

In a press release, the City of Ottumwa and Main Street Ottumwa expressed their deepest gratitude for Smith’s years of service and dedication. Smith will be recognized for her remarkable career at the city council meeting on September 17, 2024.
