An Ottumwa felon, who is prohibited to carry weapons, allegedly harassed individuals with a firearm.
43-year-old Phillip Maldonado was charged with possession of firearm or offensive weapon by felon, a class D felony, person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, a serious misdemeanor, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.
On September 3 at 1:45 a.m, court records say authorities located Maldonado after he was reported for threatening individuals with a firearm at a residence. According to officers, Maldonado ignored commands and attempted to flee while pushing a bike with cooler attached to the handlebars.
According to authorities, Maldonado was placed under arrest initially for 1st degree harassment. Officials conducted a search and found two pistols in the cooler.
According to court records, Maldonado was previously convicted of a felony in California and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Maldonado was transported to the Wapello County Jail. He has a $3,000 bond and a preliminary hearing on September 10.
