An Ottumwa man was arrested after allegedly attacking an individual with pepper spray.
37-year-old Clayton Burkman was charged with assault – causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor.
At 6:56 AM on August 26, court records say Burkman approached a vehicle that the victim was occupying at the intersection of West Main and Clay in Ottumwa. Burkman allegedly sprayed pepper spray in the victim’s face and ran away. According to authorities, Burkman’s actions were recorded via video surveillance.
A warrant for Burkman’s arrest was issued on August 27 and he was taken into custody on September 1.
Burkman was transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released on his own recognizance.
Burkman waived his preliminary hearing.
