OTTUMWA (ORMC) – Ottumwa Regional Medical Center (“ORMC”) has maintained accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for 15 consecutive years, demonstrating its commitment to the provision of high-quality care for people who have sleep problems.
“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates ORMC on meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,” said AASM President Dr. Eric J. Olson. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, giving patients confidence and peace of mind when they seek help for a sleep disorder.” Being an AASM-accredited sleep center, ORMC provides diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness. Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.
To receive and maintain accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
To further this commitment, the ORMC Sleep Lab was recently upgraded with the latest sleep study technology, including new computers and equipment. These enhancements were implemented under the leadership of Dr. Melissa Coaker, a seasoned specialist in sleep medicine. These advancements reflect ORMC’s dedication to delivering state-of-the-art healthcare services and improving patient outcomes through the precise diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. The sleep lab at ORMC offers access to adolescents thirteen and up, and adults alike, filling a critical gap in healthcare provisions. This initiative is part of ORMC’s broader mission to extend specialized medical services to all age groups within the community.
The AASM is a medical society for physicians, researchers, and other health care professionals in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers, the AASM advances sleep care and enhances sleep health to improve lives.
