An Ottumwa man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a couple. Additionally, the female victim was arrested for violating a no contact order.
40-year-old Thomas Baker was charged with domestic abuse assault – 1st offense, assault with dangerous weapon, persons ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, conspiracy intent manufacture/deliver meth – over five grams under five kilograms, failure to affix drug tax stamp – seven or more grams.
46-year-old Amy Harrison was charged with violation of no contact/protective order-contempt.
On August 5, court records say Baker was driving a vehicle and approached a couple walking near John Deere on East Vine Street. Baker exited the vehicle and began kicking the male victim and pointed a handgun at him. Authorities say Baker told the male victim he was going to “kill her when she gets home”. Law enforcement says the female victim stated she lived with Baker for four months prior to the assault.
According to court records, a valid arrest warrant was placed on Baker and a search was conducted at Baker’s residence. Officer located packaging material in his pants pocket and 7.7 grams of methamphetamine in small plastic bags. Baker was found in possession of a Taurus 9mm handgun.
Baker was taken to the Wapello County Jail. He is being held with no bond pending a hearing with a magistrate judge.
On August 5, court records say officers were dispatched to East Vine Street for the incident with Baker. Officials observed Harrison in the same tent as the male victim.
According to court records, the male victim and Harrison have a no contact order dated on July 21.
Harrison was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. She has a $500 bond and a pretrial conference on August 29.
