On August 28, 2024 at approximately 11:30pm the Jefferson County Communications Center received a call regarding a structure fire located at 51 S 12th St, Apartment Number 2, in Fairfield, lowa.
Units from the Fairfield Fire Department, Fairfield PD, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson County Ambulance responded to the call for service. Upon entry into the residence, the remains of one deceased individual were unfortunately located inside. The identity of this individual is being withheld pending notification of family.
The remains were sent to the lowa Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy to determine cause of death. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however, an intentional fire is not suspected at this time.
