A ribbon-cutting celebration for the Ottumwa Community School District Fahrney Elementary School is scheduled for Monday, August 12, 2024, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The district’s newest, state-of-the-art facility is located at 520 S Milner St in Ottumwa. The ribbon cutting will start at 4:30 p.m. at the front main entrance of the school. This event will include the Greater Ottumwa Partners In Progress.
According to the district, the opening of the Fahrney Elementary building at Douma Campus stands as a testament to Ottumwa School’s commitment to providing exceptional educational facilities while preserving the unique identity of our neighborhood schools with small class sizes. Its namesake, Fahrney, is a homage to Helen and Charles Fahrney—remarkable individuals who dedicated their lives to Ottumwa, ensuring that our children could dare to dream.
Under the administration of Principal Steve Zimmerman, Fahrney Elementary will serve southside Ottumwa students in grades 3-5. A back-to-school open house for elementary students is set for Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. where families are welcome to visit their student’s classrooms and bring school supplies. School begins on Friday, August 23, at 8:10 a.m.
