Police: Fairfield Man Assaults Officer with Baseball Bat


A Fairfield man faces charges after assaulting an officer with a baseball bat.

75-year-old Larry Bell was charged with Assault on a Peace Officer While Displaying a Weapon, Going Armed with Intent, Interference with Official Acts While Displaying a Weapon, and Willful Injury.

On July 6, a Fairfield Police Officer was on patrol and observed a woman with a warrant for her arrest on West Kirkwood Avenue. According to authorities, the officer was attempting to take the woman into custody but was struck in the head by Bell with a baseball bat. Police say Bell continued to assault the officer with the bat but other officers were able to restrain Bell and take him into custody.

The officer was transported to the Jefferson County Health Center and was released.

Bell was taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. He has a $25,000 bond pending an initial court appearance.
