An Ottumwa man was arrested after authorities say he assaulted an individual in Fairfield earlier this month.

42-year-old Bryan Thompson was charged with assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony.

According to court records, the male victim told police he was waiting for a ride at a residence located on West Briggs Avenue in Fairfield on July 11. Thompson arrived at the residence.

Sometime between 7:00 and 7:30 PM, Thompson allegedly punched the victim in the face, which knocked him down. Thompson then kicked the victim in the face when he was on the ground, police allege. Court documents say Thompson admitted to assaulting the victim.

The victim fled the residence and was taken to the hospital via private vehicle.

The victim reported the incident to the Fairfield Police Department on July 22.

A warrant for Thompson’s arrest was issued and he was taken into custody the following day. Thompson also had two other open warrants for conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine.

Thompson is currently in the Jefferson County Jail on a $20,000 cash-only bond.
