OPD: A Couple Found with Drugs and Stolen Handguns After Car Crash

A southeast Iowa couple were allegedly found with drugs and stolen handguns after a car crash.

20-year-old Daniel Maldonado of Ottumwa was charged with Providing False Identification, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Persons Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Possession of Controlled Substance Marijuana, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Failure to Affix Drug Stamp – 7 grams or more, Intent to Deliver Cocaine Under 100 grams, and Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine Over 5 grams.

19-year-old Kelsey Weinhold of Blakesburg was charged with Persons Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Possession of Controlled Substance Marijuana, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Failure to Affix Drug Stamp – 7 grams or more, Intent to Deliver Cocaine Under 100 grams, intent to Deliver Methamphetamine Over 5 grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On July 8 at 1:00 a.m, court records say Maldonado and Weinhold were involved in car accident east of Iowa Avenue on Highway 34. According to an officer from the Ottumwa Police Department, Maldonado was asked to give his name and date of birth and he gave his relative’s information instead.

Authorities conducted a probable cause search on the vehicle and found several glass pipes with drug residue in them, 9.0 grams of marijuana, 19.2 grams of methamphetamine, and 2.2 grams of cocaine. Court records say Maldonado and Weinhold admitted to officials that they possessed and distributed the drugs with no drug tax stamp.

During the probable cause search, officers say they found three handguns which were stolen from a residence in Blakesburg on July 6.

Maldonado and Weinhold were taken to the Wapello County Jail. They each have $41,000 bonds.
