The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has launched its annual Christmas in July fundraiser to support and expand the city’s beloved Holiday Tradition on the Square, according to a press release from Chamber Executive Director Mendy McAdams.
Fairfield, proudly known as the Christmas City, has a long-standing tradition of holiday displays on the square that draw families and visitors each year. Last year, community support helped fund several upgrades, including the replacement of discolored candle decorations with new lampposts and an upgraded Elf House. This year, the Chamber is planning additional improvements, including two new family-friendly photo opportunities designed to create memorable holiday moments for residents and visitors.
The project has been supported in part through a LOST grant from the City of Fairfield, though recent pricing increases have pushed costs more than $1,000 over the original budget. The Chamber also noted that annual maintenance costs for existing displays exceed $1,000, and that this past year brought significantly higher maintenance expenses along with an increase in vandalism — including a reindeer display that had a leg broken off on more than one occasion.
McAdams said the mid-year fundraiser is essential for keeping the tradition growing. “Christmas in July is an important part of how we make sure Fairfield’s Holiday Tradition on the Square continues to grow and thrive,” she said. “This mid-year fundraiser allows us to plan ahead and purchase items when they are on sale or available at better pricing earlier in the year, which helps us stretch every dollar further.”
She added that the tradition holds deep meaning for the community. “Keeping this tradition going is deeply important to us,” McAdams said. “The magic of seeing children visit Santa, experience the displays, and make lifelong memories is something we are proud to help create for families in our community. We love being able to make that happen year after year.”
