Police: Selma Man Had Sex with Underage Girl

A southeast Iowa man is accused of having sex with an underage girl last year.

21-year-old Anthony Irving of Selma has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony.

In a Child Protective Services interview at Blank Children’s Hospital last December, a 15-year-old girl told an interviewer that Irving (who was 20 at the time) had sex with her at her Centerville residence in August 2023, according to court documents. The girl said she turned down Irving’s advances six or seven times before relenting.

An officer from the Centerville Police Department was able to obtain a SnapChat dialogue between Irving and the victim from last August via a search warrant. Court records allege the officer found graphic content posted by Irving to the victim involving oral sex and other illicit language.

The officer also acquired a SnapChat dialogue from last October between Irving and the mother of his child, who pressured Irving to tell the truth about the incident. According to the criminal complaint, Irving admitted the occurrence was a “mistake made by cloudy judgment.”

Irving was arrested on June 8, 2024, and transported to the Appanoose County Jail. He is currently free after posting bond. Irving has an initial appearance scheduled for June 11.
