Ottumwa Man Charged After Drug Search


An Ottumwa man was searched by police and charged with seven counts of drug possession.

40-year-old Shawn Nickerson was charged with Possession with Intent to deliver more than five grams of methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug, two counts of Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp, Possession Controlled Substance, and Possessing Contraband.

On June 3, court records say law enforcement requested a search warrant for the residence of Nickerson. Police found more than seven grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, and multiple plastic bags. There was no drug tax stamp on the methamphetamine.

Authorities say they uncovered seventeen modafinil tablets, a schedule IV controlled substance. There was no drug tax affixed to the pills or the packaging. Police also found twenty-one gabepentin pills without a valid prescription. Court records say Nickerson has six prior drug convictions.

Before he was taken to jail, Nickerson told police he didn’t have any additional contraband on him. Authorities allegedly found more contraband on Nickerson after a search at the jail. Nickerson was allegedly found in possession of additional controlled substances and paraphernalia, charges were added.

Nickerson is located in the Wapello County Jail. A bond was set at $30,000 and he has a preliminary hearing on June 14.
