An Ottumwa man faces two felonies after police allegedly found a gun and drugs in his possession during a search.

31-year-old Cain Showalter was charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a felon.

In the early morning hours of May 10, court records say Showalter was being arrested on an open warrant. While he was being searched, officers found 6.2 grams of methamphetamine in his coat pocket.

Police executed a probable cause search on Showalter’s vehicle, according to court documents, which uncovered a loaded 9mm handgun in the driver’s side door panel. Showalter was convicted of a felony in 2015 which makes it illegal for him to own a firearm.

Showalter was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bail has been set at $30,000.
