Man Accused of Stealing Vehicles and Assaulting Officers

A Centerville man faces charges after allegedly stealing two unoccupied vehicles and assaulting two officers.

31-year-old Claude Breese was charged with two accounts of 3rd degree burglary, two accounts of assault on persons of certain occupations, interference with official acts, and 4th degree criminal mischief.

On May 24, according to Centerville Police Department, Breese was seen entering an unoccupied vehicle at a convenience store. Authorities say the victim witnessed Breese entering the vehicle. He fled quickly when the victim set off the car alarm with his keys.

Police report that he attempted to acquire items from another unoccupied vehicle that belonged to his mother. Officers blocked the vehicle in and Breese attempted to run. He ignored their commands and the officers deployed their tasers twice to no effect.

Court records say Breese assaulted both officers leaving them injured. He was taken into custody and police recovered a pack of cigarettes he acquired from a vehicle.

Authorities say Breese was spotted damaging the exterior of a building resulting up to $750 of damage. He allegedly was under the influence and wearing a bullet proof vest.

Breese was taken to the Appanoose County Jail and was later released.
