Frank Amos


Frank E. Amos, 92, of Ottumwa, died at 7:17 p.m. May 11, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

Frank was born January 1, 1932 in Ottumwa to Albert and Margaret Elizabeth Walker Amos.

Frank was a 1950 graduate of Ottumwa High School and served in the US Army from 1952-1956, rising to the rank of Corporal. He was part of the Alaska defense operation Totem Pole during the Korean War. After his service, he returned to Ottumwa where he worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone for 31 years before retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church, a life member of Knights of Columbus Council #888 and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus General McMullen Assembly, a past Master and District Lecturer of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F.& A.M. and a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Frank is survived by his wife, Peggy (Fiorino); his daughter, Connie Sue Maloney of Milwaukee, WI, and her daughter, Hannah Malloy, his daughter, Cindy Brown of Fremont; his son, Reggie L. Amos of Grand Rapids, MI; his step-daughter, Nancy Iiams of Lonetree, CO and her daughters, Krissy and Julia. He is also survived by good friends, Bill and Martha Huston of West Des Moines, and Pablo and Mauri Martinez and their family of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his son, Reece; step-son, Tony Yencsik; sister, Margaret Guiter and brothers, Albert and Bill Amos.

His body has been cremated.

The family will be present to greet friends at Reece Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15th.

Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15th at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Joseph Sia presiding.

Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
