OPD: Pair Took Turns Beating Man with Baseball Bat

A pair of southeast Iowans were arrested after police say they took turns beating a man with a baseball bat on Tuesday.

Andrew Skinner, 39, of Ottumwa, and Michaella Brandt, 21, of Bloomfield have each been charged with willful injury, a Class D felony, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor. Skinner was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor. Brandt was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine – second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Court records say at 7:50 PM, Skinner and Brandt were verbally arguing with a man on the 100 block of South Van Buren Avenue in Ottumwa.

According to police, Skinner and Brandt took turns hitting the man with a baseball bat and kicked him.

When police arrived at the scene, Skinner and Brandt attempted to run away but were apprehended on the 200 block of South Van Buren Avenue.

Both Skinner and Brandt are in the Wapello County Jail where they are being held without bond pending a hearing with a magistrate judge.
