Kermit Uhde


Kermit Richard Uhde, 80, of Ottumwa, died at 9:41 p.m. March 29, 2024 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Kermit was born October 29, 1943 in Ottumwa to George Andrew and M. Esther Matheney Uhde. He married Linda Sue Larson on March 15, 1964.

A 1961 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Kermit had worked for Haw Hardware, John Deere Ottumwa Works and Ottumwa Cemetery. He then worked for the City of Ottumwa for 39 years, starting in the Streets Department and retiring as Maintenance Foreman in 2005.

He was a member of Ottumwa Coin Club. Kermit enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting coins, watching the races and other sporting events, especially football. He especially enjoyed coaching his kids’ sports teams while they were growing up.

Surviving is his wife, Linda; their 3 children, Jeff Uhde of Ottumwa, Kelly (Mark) Femali of Ottumwa and Curt Uhde of Austin, TX; 3 grandsons, Blake, Tyler and Bryan Coulter; a sister Cheryl (Dale) Koonts of Walford; sisters-in-law, Janet Uhde of Bettendorf and Julie (David) Dillehay of Council Bluffs; brother-in-law, Jon (Michelle) Larson of Bowling Green, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ed Uhde.

Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. 7 p.m. Thursday. 

 Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 5th at Reece Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment in Shaul Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society.
