A Walmart semi-truck caused over $80,000 in damages while failing to come to a stop south of Oskaloosa on Saturday.

At 6:02 AM, officials at the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls of a semi driving erratically while traveling northbound on Highway 63/163. The semi-truck left the highway via Exit 60 and struck a utility pole and a vehicle.

The semi continued through Oskaloosa, losing several parts of its tires. Law enforcement located the vehicle on the 2400 block of Market Street. Despite authorities activating emergency lights and sirens, the semi-truck did not stop.

The truck continued to travel northbound on 63 until it became disabled and was unable to continue traveling.

Deputies removed a man from the semi, identified as 64-year-old Allen Brown of Richland, Missouri. It was determined Brown was experiencing a medical condition.

Brown was transported to Mahaska Health. He was stabilized and then transferred to Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines for further treatment.

It’s estimated the semi-truck sustained $50,000 worth of damage. The utility pole that the semi-truck hit fell over and incurred $15,000 worth of damages. Additionally, the vehicle struck by the semi suffered $10,000 worth of damage, and other vehicles suffered $10,000 worth of damage due to driving through the debris left in the wake of the semi.
