Rampant illness has forced a southern Iowa school district to cancel classes on Tuesday.

In a social media post, the Seymour Community School District says 30 percent of its staff and 20 percent of its students will not be in school due to illness. As a result, school officials decided to cancel school.

The district says a decision on having class on Wednesday will be made later on Tuesday.

Seymour officials say the Seymour girls will still play their regional basketball game tonight against Martensdale-St. Marys.

The Seymour Community School District serves around 250 students in Wayne County.
