Michael Jon Stein, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at his home. Michael was born on March 10, 1947, the son of Franklin and Mary (Pfaffenbach) Stein in Webster City, Iowa. He graduated from Webster City High School with the class of 1965. In 1966 he was drafted into the Army and was discharged in 1968. On October 12, 1968, he was united in marriage to Sandra Fortner in Humboldt, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Todd, Troy, and Travis
Michael began his working career at Humboldt Newspaper, he then transferred to the Oskaloosa Herald, as an advertising salesman for five years. Continuing in the path of sales he went and worked at Firestone Tire in Oskaloosa for 20 years. He then went and worked for Pella Corporation and retired in 2010, after 22 years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his yard and keeping his yard nice. He loved tending to his flower gardens and woodworking. Above all the center of his life was his family. In his retirement he loved to travel and was an avid Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandra Stein, and three children, Todd (Marnie) Stein of Des Moine, IA, Troy (Keely) Stein of Manteca, CA, Travis (Lilian) Stein of Kansas City, MO, 6 grandchildren, Ryan, Trinity, Kyra, Tesia, Kyler, and Tiffany, 8 great- grandchildren, 2 brothers, Dave (Pat) Stein of Dakota City, IA, and Denny Stein of Webster City, IA. Close Friends, Tom and Mary Stepp.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 2pm with Pastor Troy Stein and Pastor Dave Heatherly officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 12pm until service time. As Michael’s wish, his body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made to the family.
