League of Women Voters to Host AEA Forum

League of Women Voters of Ottumwa will host a public forum on February 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Ottumwa Schools Career Campus, 331 East Main.

A panel of local educators will discuss Governor Reynolds’s bill to reorganize Iowa’s Area Education Agencies.  According to the League of Women Voters, the bill would substantially change the administrative structure responsible for the delivery of services to students and schools.  It will also change how state monies for education are allocated. 

Panel members will discuss the impact of the bill and its consequences for students and families, school districts and AEAs, and communities.  Panel members will be OHS Superintendent Mike McGrory, John Berg, Business Manager, Pekin School Superintendent Derek Phillips, and Great Prairie Area Education Agency Chief Administrator Nathan Wood.

The bill is listed as House Study Bill 542 and Senate Study Bill 3073. 

The press release states the League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy. 

The public is invited and questions may be asked after the presentations.
