Albia, IA – A house fire last night in Albia resulted in a total loss for a local home owner. John Freshwater, Chief of the Albia Fire Department, said they were dispatched around 8:30 last night and that when his crew arrived at the house the entire upstairs was engulfed in flame.

“My guys did a great job with a quick knock down”, he said, resulting in the fire being put out before it spread to the lower level. The home owner was sleeping downstairs at the time of the fire and was awakened by the noise of the fire. The home owner was able to escape safely and no injuries were reported. Chief Freshwater and his team were at the site until around midnight.

Chief Freshwater was just returning from a call of a grass fire this morning when he took the time to speak with us about last night’s fire. He would like to remind folks to be aware that things are very dry right now and to exercise caution.
